Intermediate 1's should listen first to the ESL Pod audios and the poems, and leave the rest till after the Winter Holidays.
All groups can use the BBC audios when people are ready to practice the skimming and scanning technique with them.

Listen to the audios, trying to work from the general to - increasingly - more detail. Identify first the type of text, the topic, the context, the participants. Later, the main ideas. And later gather more info. Then practice speaking, timing yourselves, telling yourself about what you listened to. Listen to the same audio several times in the month / term.
